Good Shepherd United Church of Christ tries very hard to be an active, engaged family of faith. As part of this goal, we attempt to offer our members, friends and guests a wide range of activities to experience, that will help build and reflect our Christian faith.
From special worship events and community service activites, to family-oriented entertainment, our goal is to provide a cross-section of calendar items so that there is "something for everyone."
We hope you'll visit our Photo Section frequently for a closer look at some of things we've been up to lately (as well as some occasional visits back into our archives!).
One of the most anticipated events of our advent calendar is the annual choir cantata. Each year our choir teams up with other musicians in the church for a collection of traditional hymns and new musical interpretations of the Christmas message. We have a collection of pictures from the 2012 Christmas Cantata, under the direction of Choir Director Carla Gleason.
Good Shepherd UCC celebrated our second annual Harvest Fest on September 30. This special event allows members, friends, neighbors and guests to enjoy a family-style meal and bid on a variety of items to earn funds for the church and it's special projects.
Participants were treated to a full turkey meal that was home cooked by over a dozen church members and was enthusiastically served by the youth group. Silent and live auctions for sports tickets, trips, restaurant cards, crafts and more generated over $6,000 funds and an evening of fun for everyone in attendance.
Summer 2012 was great here at Good Shepherd UCC, with a wide range of activities for members and friends of all ages. We continued our quarterly service events at Carying Place and shared food and fellowship with some of our disadvantged neighbors. One of the summer workday highlights was the removal of a large tree stump.
Summer brought with it another opportunity to provide ushering and ticket-taking services for the legendary Carolina Roller Girls. Another notable event took place at our sister church Cary First Christian. Their annual community outreach day incuded a variety of events and services for the community, such as mobile dental service.
Every Thanksgiving since 2004, members, their families and friends have enjoyed a delicious pot luck turkey dinner at the church. The tradition began when one of our members, Gayle Merrill, observed that many members of our church family spent this special holiday away from other family members. She suggested holding an event that would attract people who were looking for others to share a meal with, as well as members whose families were visiting from elsewhere. It’s now our Thanksgiving tradition, generally with around 50 people attending each year. Here's a look back at some of the festivities from past years.
These are just a few of the highlights in the life of the Good Shepherd UCC family. For more photo galleries, simple click on the links on the left side of this page.
We often take pictures during church events for our newsletter and website. If you would like NOT to have your picture used, please inform the pastor or the church office in writing.
