Caring For Creation
A dedicated team within Good Shepherd UCC’s Mission and Outreach Ministry is called Caring For Creation. These members focus their energies on ways that the church and congregation can become better stewards of God’s earthly creation, through projects, seminars, newsletter articles and more.
Through the leadership of Caring For Creation, in 2016, Good Shepherd UCC installed 20 solar panels on the church roof. This initiative is projected to generate approximately 8,000 kWh/year of electricity, which will prevent burning 32 tons of coal, and will reduce 9 tons of CO2 from the air each year.
Caring For Creation also plays a pivotal role in the church’s Shepherd’s Garden, which produces dozens of pounds of food that is donated to Cary’s Dorcas Ministries, for distribution to their clients.
