Good Shepherd UCC Safe Church Policy

Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Cary, NC, is committed to providing an environment that is free of discrimination, harassment, exploitation or intimidation for all who worship with us. The congregation voted on June 10, 2007 to adopt a Safe Church Policy Concerning Abuse Prevention. Click here to see a copy of this policy.

Good Shepherd UCC is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment in which young people can learn about and experience God’s love. Click here to see a copy of the Children and Youth Protection Guidelines, which provide some specifics on how we make the safety of our children and youth a top priority.

Written consent of a parent or legal guardian of a minor is required for all child and youth activities off the Church property and for any overnight activities. Click here to see a copy of the Parental Permission Form/Release Form.

All volunteers and employees who regularly work with children and youth are required to complete and submit the Authorized Volunteer or Employment Application and Disclosure Form. Click here to see a copy of the form. In some cases, with the individual’s authorization, an investigation is done regarding prior employment, education, criminal history, etc.

The Response Team, is a committee reporting to Staff Relations that will convene as necessary to hear and resolve complaints that may arise under our safe church policy. Members of the Response Team for 2017-18 are Kate Yuska, Barb Newman and Bob Bedi. Any GSUCC member or any visiting friend/guest who observes violations of the GSUCC safe church policy, or has reasonable suspicion of inappropriate activity, is obligated to report the allegation immediately to a member of the Response Team in a confidential manner. No member or officer of the Church is permitted individually to initiate an attempted resolution to any allegation. All actions must be undertaken through the Response Team in accordance with written procedures adopted by the congregation.
